Longshot Rerun Marches to Miami Mile Score

World Thoroughbreds Racing homebred Rerun scored the biggest victory of his career when he took the $100,000 Miami Mile (gr. IIIT) at Gulfstream Park April 25.
Sent off at 21-1 under jockey Jose Caraballo, Rerun caught post-time favorite Grand Tito in the final strides to prevail by a half-length, earning his first stakes victory.
"It was an awesome run," winning trainer Chad Stewart said. "We were pretty excited. He's a nice horse and he had a great day."
Second choice Storming Inti set the pace from the start with Inchcape pressing him through a half-mile in :48.77 over Gulfstream's turf course that was labeled good from afternoon showers.
Grand Tito, who won the Miami Mile in 2014, raced third, while Rerun raced in fourth, saving ground along the rail.
As they turned for home, Grand Tito made his move under Paco Lopez to grab the lead away from Storming Inti, while Caraballo tipped Rerun off the rail into the four-path at the top of the stretch.
From there, Rerun began to find his best stride and wore down Grand Tito in the final strides, covering the mile in 1:37.55. The 6-year-old now has won six times from 16 starts with earnings of $141,740.
Rerun, a gelded son by Grand Reward out of the Silver Ghost mare It's Spooky, made his debut in 2013 at Tampa Bay Downs in a maiden claiming race, when he finished seventh racing for a $25,000 tag.
Two starts later, the Kentucky-bred broke his maiden in a maiden special weight race at Tampa.
Rerun returned $44, $15.40, and $7.60 across the board. Grand Tito delivered $4 and $2.80. Shatak paid $3.80 to show.
Storming Inti weakened to fourth and was followed by Inchcape, Adios Nardo, McIlroy, Hammers Terror, and Sette E Mezzo. Middleburg was an early scratch by trainer Christophe Clement because of the rain and stablemate Red Vine was scratched as a main-track-only entrant.
