Bourbon Therapy breaks his maiden at Horseshoe Indianpolis

Spendthrift Farm's grade 1 winner Free Drop Billy   sired his first winner June 27 at Horseshoe Indianapolis where his son Bourbon Therapy  won in gate-to-wire fashion by 1 1/2 lengths.

Scott Pierce bred Bourbon Therapy in Kentucky out of the Holy Bull winner Naturally Naughty , a half sister to stakes winner and stake producer Bam Bam Bull . The colt was offered at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale where he was a $19,000 buy-back. He wound up with trainer John Ennis, who co-owns Bourbon Therapy with Hidden Creek Farm.

Bourbon Therapy made his debut at Keeneland April 28 when he was unplaced and followed with a stronger effort May 30 when he was runner-up at Horseshoe Indianapolis. He won his third start going five furlongs in :58.04. All of his starts have been on turf.

A 7-year-old son of Union Rags  , Free Drop Billy won at first asking at 2 and after two runner-up efforts in the Sanford Stakes (G3) and Hopeful Stakes (G1) he won the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1). At 3, he was graded-placed three times with a second in the Holy Bull Stakes (G2) and thirds in the Gotham Stakes (G3) and Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2). He retired with a 2-3-2 record from 11 starts and earned $662,470.

Free Drop Billy stood at Spendthrift this year for $5,000.
