Class Racing Stable's Blingismything rallied along the rail to win the $100,000 Wilshire Stakes (gr. IIIT) for fillies and mares April 26 at Santa Anita Park.
With Tyler Baze aboard for trainer Eric Kruljac, Blingismything won for the fourth time in 10 starts. The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred mare by Arch out of the General Meeting mare Dancing General, bred by Jack Swain, covered the one mile on the turf in 1:37.16 on a course rated firm.
Favored Birdlover led for most of the grass race through fractions of :23.64 for the opening quarter-mile, :48.29 for the half-mile, and 1:13.48 for six furlongs while tracked by Uzziel and Indecise. The field bunched up nearing the wire as Blingismything, along the rail, and Smoove It, on the far outside, rallied hard at the leaders.
After a lengthy look at the photo finish, stewards posted Blingismything first. She finished a nose ahead of Smoove It, with Birdlover third and Indecise fourth.
Blingismything paid $7.40, $3.80, and $2.40 as the second choice in the Wilshire. Smoove It returned $5.60 and $3.20, while Birdlover paid $2.40. The $1 exacta paid $22.90 and the $1 trifecta $62.40.
Moulin de Mougin and Thegirlinthatsong were scratched, which left a six-horse field.
Blingismything in her last two starts finished third twice in graded turf stakes at Santa Anita. The Wilshire was her first stakes victory.
