Flurry Racing Stables' Interstatedaydream surged to a 2 1/2-length victory July 9 in the $200,000 Indiana Oaks (G3) at Horseshoe Indianapolis, collecting her second consecutive graded stakes score in determined fashion.
Off alertly under Florent Geroux in a seven-horse field for the 1 1/16-mile test over a drying-out, "good" track, the 3-year-old Classic Empire filly vied outside pacesetter Patna , who relinquished the advantage after showing the way through a quarter in :24.04 and a half in :48.26. Patna relinquished the advantage to Interstatedaydream as the field turned for home, but Runaway Wife was looming on the outside through three-quarters in 1:12.55 under Corey Lanerie, and briefly headed the eventual winner in early stretch.
"Corey didn't just think he'd pass me—he really did pass me almost three-quarters of a length," Geroux said. "The last eighth of a mile she gave me another kick, and I was very happy."
Interstatedaydream was set to the task by Geroux, found another gear through a 1:37.37 mile, and surged to the wire, widening away late under mild urging to finish in 1:43.78.
"Extremely well-spotted," Geroux said of Interstatedaydream's entry. "Brad decided to run her in this race and pass on the heavy heads on the East Coast and West Coast. Perfect spot. She won very nicely last time out at Pimlico, and it was nice to get another graded stakes on her resume."
Runaway Wife held for second. It was 6 1/2 lengths back to Silverleaf in third.
Interstatedaydream was sent off as the 1-5 favorite and returned $2.60 on a $2 win ticket while improving her record to 4-1-1 from six starts with earnings of $468,825. The Indiana Oaks followed her May 20 win in the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) at Pimlico Race Course, which came on the heels of a third in the April 8 Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland. She also owns an allowance score at Oaklawn Park and her maiden victory at Belmont Park, which serve as bookends to a runner-up finish in the 2021 Adirondack Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course.
"She had to battle," Cox said. "I was a little concerned when we straightened up (out of the far turn) and Lanerie looked like he had as much horse as he did, but she responded well. I think her class and her talent, how good she is, showed up late. She's a good filly. She looked like she was 1-to-5. At sixteenth pole, maybe not, but it worked out."
Staton Flurry, with an assist from bloodstock agent Clay Scherer, purchased Interstatedaydream for $175,000 at last year's Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training from Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables, agent. She was a $105,000 short yearling buy at the 2020 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale by Rascal Bloodstock from the estate of William D. Graham's Windhaven Farms, and sold again to Lehigh Bloodstock for $130,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where she was consigned by Paramount Sales.
"We wanted to get another graded stakes under her belt and hopefully we can go onto bigger and better things," Flurry said. "It was a good finish. I'm excited to see what the future holds for us."
William D. Graham bred the filly in Ontario out of the unraced Uncle Mo mare Babcock, whose two foals to race have both been winners. Babcock also produced 2021 Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser runner-up Emmeline , by Violence . Her last reported foal was an unnamed Broken Vow filly dropped in 2020.
Cox said top-level company could be next for Interstatedaydream, whether the Sept. 24 Cotillion Stakes (G1) at Parx Racing or the Aug. 20 Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course.
"We're going to let some of these fillies like Nest and Secret Oath kind of duke it out maybe this summer and if the Cotillion comes up the way we'd like, that could be a good spot as well," he said. "We need to take a swing at a grade 1 at some point, and that could be one I've kind of eyeballed."
