Champion 2-year-old male Good Magic was represented by his first black-type stakes winner July 9 when Vegas Magic rallied to win the $76,800 Everett Nevin Stakes by a nose at Pleasanton.
Owned by Omar Aldabbagh, Todd Cady, and Ty Leatherman, Vegas Magic closed from seventh as the even-money favorite to improve to 2-for-2. The 2-year-old filly, a maiden winner last month at Santa Anita Park, ran 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast main track in 1:05.39 under Frank Alvarado.
Purchased for $100,000 by trainer Doug O'Neill out of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March Sale from the Wavertree consignment, Vegas Magic has earned $85,200.
Bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall, she is out of the winning Rockport Harbor mare Heidi Maria , the dam of four winners from six foals to race. The dam delivered a filly by Sharp Azteca this year and has a yearling filly by Kantharos .
Vegas Magic first passed through the ring as a yearling when bringing $130,000 to Lehigh Bloodstock from her breeder's consignment.
Good Magic, who captured the Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) during his championship season in 2017, has four winners to date. They include Just Like Magic and Curly Jack , straight maiden graduates at Churchill Downs, and Quagmire Magic , a maiden claiming winner at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Good Magic stands at Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa Farms in Kentucky for $30,000.
