Tyler's Tribe  scored a front-running, 8 1/2-length victory July 9 in the $122,200 Prairie Gold Stakes at Prairie Meadows, becoming the first stakes winner for Sharp Azteca  .

The 2-year-old Iowa-bred gelding took off after the start of the 5 1/2-furlong dirt test for juveniles and clicked off splits of :22.07, :45.16, and :57.20 en route to a final time of 1:03.64 on a fast track under jockey Jordan Kylee. He paid $7.60 on a $2 win ticket.

He races for Martin and Thomas Lepic and has earned $106,554 for his two victories. Bred by Clifton Farm & Derek Merkler, he was a $34,000 purchase by Lepic and Martin from Clifton's consignment to the 2021 Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association Fall Mixed Sale.

Sharp Azteca, a son of Freud, won the 2017 Cigar Mile Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) by five lengths at Aqueduct Racetrack and was runner-up in that year's Las Vegas Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Del Mar. He won five graded stakes in all and earned more than $2.4 million while finishing on the board 14 times in 17 starts. He stood the 2022 season at Three Chimneys Farm for an advertised stud fee of $5,000 stands and nurses.
