Princess Grace Repeats in Dr. James Penny Memorial

John and Susan Moore's Princess Grace  surged past $1 million in earnings July 12 when repeating in the $200,000 Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes at Parx Racing.

A homebred 5-year-old daughter of Karakontie  , Princess Grace took the Penny Memorial by a neck in 2021 and was more dominant in winning Tuesday's race. She cruised on the lead with easy fractions of :24.51, :49.08, and 1:13.25 under Florent Geroux and had plenty left when called upon in the stretch, kicking away from her seven rivals.

Favored Flirting Bridge , seventh early, rallied three-wide on the second turn to be a clear-cut second, three lengths behind the winner.

Love in the Air  edged Runaway Rumour  by a head in a distant show photo.

The Mike Stidham trainee, out the stakes-placed Silent Name   mare Masquerade , raced 1 1/16 miles on a firm turf course in 1:43.70, paying $5.40 as the second choice. She earned $112,800 to raise her bankroll to $1,086,160, accomplished with a 7-1-2 record in 11 starts.

She rebounded from a seventh-place finish in her 2022 debut last month in the Eatontown Stakes (G3T) at Monmouth Park. The Penny was her fifth graded win. Besides her two victories in the Penny Memorial, she took the 2020 off-the-turf Mrs. Revere Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs, the 2021 Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2T) at Del Mar, and the 2021 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (G3T).
