Houghton, Radosevich Win Mahoning Titles

Terry Houghton and Jeff Radosevich topped the respective jockey and trainer standings at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course when the 67-day winter/spring meet ended April 25.
 
Houghton, currently 20th all-time in North America in wins, registered 67 victories from 318 mounts. He also led the track's riders, with total purse earnings of $732,215. Edgar Paucar finished second in the standings with 60 wins from 267 mounts and purse earnings of $489,302. Christian Pilares was a distant third with totals of 52 wins and purse earnings of $499,792.
 
Radosevich won 36 races and more than $276,000 in purse money from 166 starts. Elliot Sullivan finished in the runner-up spot with 29 wins from 91 starts and more than $202,000 in purse earnings. Robert Gorham, who led all trainers in purse earnings with $405,055, rounded out the top three with totals of 25 wins from 101 starts.
 
On the business side, purses averaged just shy of $80,000 per day with handle exceeding $550,000 on a daily basis, the track said in a press release. 
 
"Despite a harsh winter, business was robust and we are very pleased with the results of our inaugural year," said. Mark Loewe, vice president of racing operations.
 
Blizzard Buddy Ben, a 10-year-old son Greatness, won five of six starts and earned horse of the meet honors. Owned and trained by Larry Reed, the Ontario-bred gelding finished second in his lone defeat. He earned more than $37,500 at the meet.
 
The 2015 fall/winter racing season will begin with a special Friday card, Friday, Oct. 30.
