Darby Dan Farm's multiple graded stakes winner Modernist  , a son of Uncle Mo  , will stand the Southern Hemisphere season at Haras Santa Olga Farm in Santiago, Chile, the farm announced July 21. The deal was brokered by Matt Bowling of Bowling Bloodstock.

A Martin and Pam Wygod homebred who was trained by Bill Mott, Modernist enjoyed his best season at 3, winning the Risen Star Stakes Presented by Lamarque Ford (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in front-running fashion in his stakes debut and later third in the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby (G2). In 2021, he captured the Excelsior Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack and was runner-up in both the $100,000 Michelob Ultra Challenger Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs and the Pimlico Match Series Stakes (G3) at Pimlico Race Course. He was retired with a 3-2-2 record from 11 starts and banked $576,300.

Modernist is out of the unraced Bernardini mare Symbolic Gesture, who is a half sister to Wygod homebred and 2004 champion 2-year-old filly Sweet Catomine  (Storm Cat), who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). The mare is also a half sister to Life Is Sweet  (Storm Cat), who won the 2009 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1) and earned $1,820,810.

Modernist entered stud at Darby Dan this year for $10,000 and bred 141 mares.
