Although it looked like it battle might loom in the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) July 23 at Saratoga Race Course when Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) victress Secret Oath drew even with Nest past the half-mile pole, the latter put that idea to rest fairly quickly. She kicked clear of that foe at the top of the lane and powered away to an emphatic victory.
Owned by the partnership of Repole Stable, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Michael House, Nest turned the tables on Secret Oath, whom she finished second behind in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) in May. The Todd Pletcher trainee was entering the Coaching Club American Oaks off a runner-up finish behind stablemate Mo Donegal in the June 11 Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets (G1).
The slight betting favorite over Secret Oath, Nest paid $3.90 to win in a short field of five. The 3-year-old daughter of Curlin raced 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.04 under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.
Secret Oath finished second with Nostalgic completing the trifecta.
