Princess Chessie wins her debut at Delaware Park

David Bloom's homebred Princess Chessie  became the first winner for Maryland sire Irish War Cry   when she ran six rivals off their feet July 23 in a $43,350 maiden special weight at Delaware Park.

Sent off at odds of 20-1 in her first start, the Baltazar Galvan trainee was sixth early on as Circuitt  led through a :22.42 quarter. That rival rescinded the advantage to Louise Brooks  while jockey Erasmo Martinez had Princess Chessie on the move up to third. Making a wide bid through the stretch, the eventual winner drove clear en route to a 3 3/4-length victory in a final time of 1:06.99 on a fast track.

Princess Chessie paid $42.40 on a $2 win ticket.

Isabelle de Tomaso's homebred Irish War Cry won the 2017 Lambholm South Holy Bull Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park and the Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G2) at Aqueduct Racetrack. He was also runner-up in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) at Belmont Park and returned as a 4-year-old to capture the 1998 Pimlico Special Stakes (G3) at Pimlico Race Course. Campaigned by Graham Motion, he retired with five wins and two seconds from 13 starts, with earnings of $1,257,060.

Irish War Cry stands at Northview Stallion Station near Chesapeake City, Md., where his 2022 fee was advertised as $6,500 live foal.
