Description:

Multiple graded stakes winner Something Extra looks to add to his resume in the $150,000 Twin Spires Turf Sprint Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs on May 1.

A winner of nine career starts, the Indian Charlie gelding made his 2015 debut a winning one when he wired the pack to take the April 4 Shakertown Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland.

Sent right to the front by jockey Shaun Bridgmohan, Something Extra made every step a winning one, covering the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:02.85.

It was the fourth graded stakes score for the 7-year-old, who was bred in Kentucky by Gulf Coast Farms, LLC.

In addition to the Shakertown, Something Extra also won the 2012 and 2013 Connaught Cup Stakes (gr. IIT) and the 2014 Highlander Stakes (gr. IIT).

Something Extra drew post 11 in the 12-horse field and will carry 120 pounds in the five furlong sprint.

Owned by John Menary and trainer Gail Cox, Something Extra owns a career record of 9-8-5 from 29 starts with earnings of $865,656.

He finished 10th in last year's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Park.

Sharing the starting 120-pound high weight with Something Extra is Power Alert and Heitai.

The Australian-bred Power Alert was sent off the favorite in the Shakertown and chased the early speed of Something Extra before weakening to fourth.

The 5-year-old began his career in his native country, winning four of 13 races before coming to North America for owners James Covello, AJ Suited Racing Stable, LLC and trainer Brian Lynch.

The grey gelding won his first two starts at Gulfstream Park, taking an allowance race on Dec. 21 before scoring in the $75,000 Silks Run Stakes on March 14.

Since faltering in the Shakertown, Power Alert recorded a bullet workout at Keeneland, covering four furlongs over the turf course in :48 4/5 on April 19. He will once again be ridden by Julien Leparoux breaking from post 10.

Louisiana-bred Heitai will be looking for his first graded score in the Turf Sprint, having already won 14 times from 29 starts.

The 5-year-old gelding will be seeking his fourth straight win for owner Rowell Enterprises Inc. and trainer Thomas Amoss and has never lost on the grass from four starts.

Heitai will leave from post three with jockey James Graham in the irons.

Berlino Di Tiger won the 2013 Turf Sprint but has lost his next eight starts for owner Equinox Inc. and trainer Eduardo Caramori.

Off since Oct. 1, Berlino Di Tiger weakened to seventh in the Shakertown Stakes but has since worked a bullet for this start. He drew the rail.
