Chi Town Lady wins the Test Stakes at Saratoga Race Course

Castleton Lyons' Chi Town Lady  rolled to a last-to-first victory while upsetting the heavy 1-5 favorite Matareya  in a wet rendition of the $500,000 Longines Test Stakes at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 6.

Winless in two starts this year, the 3-year-old daughter of Verrazano  was dismissed at 17-1 odds for trainer Wesley Ward. On a track drenched from an afternoon shower, Chi Town Lady bided her time at the back of the pack as grade 3 winner Hot Peppers  showed the way. Matareya engaged Hot Peppers in a lively duel at the top of the lane until Chi Town Lady swept by those rivals in the final sixteenth under jockey Joel Rosario.

Chi Town Lady ($36) raced the seven furlongs in 1:23.97.

Hot Peppers edged Matareya for the place.

A stewards inquiry followed the race, owing to a bump involving the winner and third-place finisher in the final sixteenth, but the result stood.
