Strutting his blazing speed, Life Is Good took charge at the start of the $1 million Whitney Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course and repelled bids from Happy Saver and Hot Rod Charlie to definitively win the prestigious, 1 1/8-mile race.
The winner, a 4-year-old son of Into Mischief, raced 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.97, paying $3.70 to win as the favorite in the field of five. Irad Ortiz Jr. was aboard Life Is Good for trainer Todd Pletcher and owners WinStar Farm and China Horse Club.
Happy Saver, another Pletcher trainee who stalked the pace and to contend in midstretch, flattened out a bit late but placed, edging Hot Rod Charlie, who settled for the show position. Olympiad weakened after sitting in third down the backstretch and settled for fourth.
The Whitney served a Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" Challenge Race, providing free, automatic entry in the Longines Breeder's Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland Nov. 5.
