A pair of Bolt d'Oro colts will try to follow in his footsteps when they attempt to secure a graded stakes win in their second start.
While Bolt d'Oro jumped right up to win at the grade 1 level in 2017 when he followed his maiden debut score in August with a victory in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in September, his sons Arman and Agency have been entered in the $200,000 Best Pal Stakes (G3) Aug. 14 at Del Mar. The six-furlong Best Pal is a prep race for the seven-furlong Runhappy Del Mar Futurity, this year scheduled for Sept. 11.
Kaleem Shah's Arman and Muir Hut Stables' Agency both enter Sunday's juvenile test off clear maiden victories at five furlongs. Trained by Simon Callaghan, Arman rallied from fourth early and drew off to a 2 1/2-length score June 23 at Churchill Downs. Agency also rallied to win his maiden debut as the Mark Glatt trainee scored by a length June 12 at Santa Anita Park after racing in fifth early.
A third son of Bolt d'Oro among the 11 juveniles entered is Arizona-bred Pop d'Oro , who debuted with a front-end score in an April maiden race at Turf Paradise and enters off a fourth-place finish in the Fasig-Tipton Futurity in June at Santa Anita.
