Fair Grounds Cancels Racing After 3 Races

Heavy rains and lightning in the New Orleans area Dec. 22 caused a lengthy delay before the running of the third race at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots and resulted in the remaining six races being been canceled.
"The safety of the jockeys and horses competing in races at Fair Grounds always comes first, and we are expecting the severe weather that hit the area to continue through the afternoon," said Howard Withers, general manager of racing. "In the interests of our participants' safety, we have elected to cancel the remaining races on today's card."
Live racing is scheduled to resume at Fair Grounds Monday, Dec. 23, with first post at 1 p.m. CST.
