After a nightmare start that cost him any chance in the July 9 Indiana Derby (G3), Lucky Seven Stable's Rattle N Roll dominated the $250,000 St. Louis Derby presented by FanDuel SportsBook, motoring home a 4 1/2-length winner Aug. 20 at FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing.

The 3-year-old son of Connect again had trouble leaving the gate, being bumped hard and forced into Strike Hard at the start. Rattle N Roll had only one of his eight opponents beaten down the backstretch as One Timer led through an opening quarter in :24.34 and half-mile in :48.24. Under regular rider Brian Hernandez Jr., Rattle N Roll began to advance past the six-furlong marker and swept widest of all into the final turn. Traveling the extra distance was inconsequential, as Rattle N Roll surged clear in upper stretch and continued to draw off, stopping the clock in 1:45.12 for 1 1/16 miles on a fast track.
War Campaign and Brigadier General completed the trifecta.
Trained by Kenny McPeek, Rattle N Roll paid $4.80 as the favorite.
Rattle N Roll, a winner last year in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1), registered his second stakes tally of the year. Two starts back, he returned to winning form in the July 2 American Derby at Churchill Downs.
The $210,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase has a record of 4-1-2 from 12 starts and earnings of $758,105.
