With four contenders, including defending champion The Critical Way scratched, Violent Turbulence went wire to wire Aug. 23 to take the $200,000 Parx Dash at Parx Racing.
The 12-1 shot captured the five-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up on a fast track in :57.95 after setting fractions of :22.43 and :45.74. The race was originally scheduled for turf.
Violent Turbulence, a gelded son of Turbulence owned in partnership by Pewter Stable and Spedale Family Racing, wasted little time taking control of the race.
With Silvestre Gonzalez in the irons, Violent Turbulence opened up a 1 1/2-length lead over 42-1 shot Extreme Force and quickened his pace despite no real challenger coming. Gonzalez's mount had a 3 1/2-length lead at the furlong pole and coasted to the wire to defeat Extreme Force by 3 1/4 lengths. He paid $26.40.
Doc Amster , the 4-5 favorite, started slowly and nosed out War Tocsin for third.
Trained by Kathleen Demasi, Violent Turbulence improved his record this year to 2-0-0 in four starts, with the last two victories. Overall, the Florida-bred is 6-for-18 with earnings of $274,975.
He was most recently purchased by Pewter Stable for $40,000 at the 2019 Ocala Breeders' Sales March Two-Year-Olds in Training sale from the All Dreams Equine consignment.
Violent Turbulence is out of the Desert Party mare T'as d'Beaux Yeux. He was bred by Beckie and Charles Cantrell.
