Pixelate wins the Mint Million Stakes at Kentucky Downs

Pixelate  returns to Kentucky Downs Sept. 3 with designs on repeating as WinStar Mint Million Stakes (G3T) winner. 

The Godolphin homebred hasn't been in the winner's circle in almost a year—he's 0-for-4 since winning this race—but it certainly hasn't been for lack of effort. 

The son of City Zip and Speckled, by Street Cry (IRE), followed up last year's Mint Million with a seventh-place showing in the Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes (G1T), but subsequently added two seconds and a third. The Mint Million will be only his second race of 2022. 

Florent Geroux will be riding Pixelate, who is the 5-2 favorite.

It is another Godolphin-bred who is lined up as the top challenger to Pixelate with 7-2 odds.

Atone  is on a nine-race stretch with top-four finishes but is 0-for-5 this year. Notable results include seconds in the Fort Lauderdale Stakes (G2T) and Forbidden Apple Stakes (G3T), third in the Dinner Party Stakes (G2T), and fourth in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes presented by Baccarat (G1T) and Maker's Mark Mile Stakes (G1T).

The gelded son of Into Mischief and Captivating Lass, by A.P. Indy, is owned by Jordan Wycoff and trained by Mike Maker.

Other challengers in the nine-horse field include Mr Dumas  (5-1), Cavalry Charge  (6-1), Kentucky Ghost  (6-1), Tut's Revenge  (8-1), Gray's Fable  (8-1), Injunction  (10-1), and Betwithbothhands  (30-1).
