Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher already has the best 3-year-old filly in the land in his barn in the imposing Nest , winner of the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) and Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course this summer.
It looks like her little brother can run a bit, too.
Lost Ark , a 2-year-old colt owned by Harrell Ventures, stayed unbeaten in two starts following his impressive 7 1/2-length win in the one-mile $203,500 Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park Aug. 27.
The son of Violence broke his maiden at Belmont Park by 5 1/2 lengths July 3.
"I was very impressed by the way he was training leading up to his debut," Pletcher said outside his barn at the Oklahoma Training Track Sept. 2.
Next up for Lost Ark is likely the $600,000 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at 1 1/16 miles at Keeneland Oct. 8.
"Now that he has two turns under his belt, that is probably the race that makes the most sense," Pletcher said.
Lost Ark is out of Marion Ravenwood , who in addition to Nest has also produced Idol , the winner of last year's Santa Anita Handicap (G1).
"They are both attractive horses," Pletcher said. "I would not say that there would be an obvious sibling resemblance, but they are both pretty professional straightforward horses to train. All of (Lost Ark's) works have been good. If anything, I have been a little surprised at how precocious he has been."
While Nest has spent the summer at Saratoga, Lost Ark has done his training at Belmont.
