Dalika wins the Beverly D. Stakes at Churchill Downs

Dalika (GER) looks to post consecutive wins for the first time in her career and go past $1 million in earnings Sept. 10 in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (G3T).

She finished second in this race last year to Princess Grace  by half a length and held off that same rival by that same margin in the Aug. 13 Beverly D. Stakes (G1T) at Churchill Downs. The race purse, originally at $750,000, increased to $1 million under an incentive Kentucky Downs offered if a grade 1 winner were to run. That breaks down into a $550,000 base purse and another $450,000 in Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Funds for Kentucky-breds.

Bred by Gestut Ammerland, the Bal Mar Equine-owned and  Albert Stall Jr.-trained Dalika is 1-1-0 in three starts this year. The 2-1 favorite has earned $954,856 over 28 starts.

Princess Grace comes in with 3-1 odds and has finished out of the money just once in 12 career starts. That came three starts ago in the Eatontown Stakes (G3T) at Monmouth Park. John and Susan Moore's homebred is trained by Michael Stidham.

The winner of the Eatontown, the Shug McGaughey-trained Stolen Holiday , comes into the race for fillies and mares 3 years old and up with 4-1 odds. She was bred by Orpendale and owned by Annette Allen.

Another challenger is Stonestreet Stables' homebred Hendy Woods . At 9-2, the Mark Casse-trained mare comes in following a two-month layoff after winning the Indiana General Assembly Distaff Stakes.
