Godolphin started this season with a classic bang thanks to Coroebus in the QIPCO Two Thousand Guineas (G1), but his death in the Prix du Moulin de LongChamp (G1) last week has taken some gloss off of the campaign. However, in Sept. 11 Cazoo St. Leger Stakes (G1) favorite New London , the royal blue operation has a red-hot chance of being back in the big time.
New London was disappointing when beaten in the Boodles Chester Vase (G3), but won Goodwood's John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (G3) in convincing fashion last time out July 28.
Charlie Appleby, successful in the 2021 St. Leger with Hurricane Lane , said: "We are not lacking confidence with the trip.
"The only blip he's had was in the Chester Vase, and I don't think it was the trip and the ground. He'd run a good, solid race on his first start at the Craven meeting and it was just three weeks later—he's best fresh.
"That's why I've not run him since the Gordon, I've always said we wanted to come into this fresh."
Also of interest is listed York winner Haskoy , unbeaten in two starts, who convinced connections to supplement her for £50,000.
The Juddmonte-owned Golden Horn homebred is trained by Ralph Beckett, who said: "I can't ever remember having a filly who has been capable of doing what she's done in such a short time."
The last filly to win the St. Leger was 2015 heroine Simple Verse , also trained by Beckett.
