The opening session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale got off to a fast start Sept. 12 when Hip 1, a bay colt by Medaglia d'Oro sold for $850,000 to a partnership including Michael Talla and West Point Thoroughbreds.
Trainer John Sadler signed the ticket on the colt consigned by Lane's End and bred in Kentucky by Gage Hill Stables and W.S. Farish out of the winning Distorted Humor mare Pauline Revere. The mare is a half sister to grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner American Theorem and stakes winners Mighty Caroline , Cyclogenisis , and Renee's Queen .
Sadler said Hip 1 is likely one of 10 yearlings he hopes to buy for Talla Racing and West Point.
"We bought some horses last year and have come back again. It happened to be Hip 1," Sadler said. "He is very well balanced, a nice-looking colt. We know the connections that raised him; Lane's End raises a very good horse."
