Miracles Of Life provided Central Kentucky-based Stonestreet Stables a win at the highest level in Australia May 2, when she narrowly captured the Aus$400,000 William Hill Classic (Aus-I) at Morphettville.
There was little more than a thick lip between the daughter of Not A Single Double and runner-up Gregers at the finish in the 1,200 meter (about six-furlong) race for fillies and mares, the official margin of victory a short half head.
Barbara Banke's Kentucky-based Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings went to $900,000 ($830,318 in United States funds) a year ago buy Miracles Of Life at the select session of the Magic Millions National broodmare sale, aiming to keep her in training. She was a winner of the 2013 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (Aus-I) for 2-year-olds and the 2014 Sportingbet Stakes (Aus-II) at Morphettville for owner/breeder Teeley Assets just prior to her purchase.
This year, Miracles Of Life won the Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (Aus-II) March 7 at Randwick for Stonestreet and trainers Peter and Paul Snowden and came into Saturday's race off a third in the Canadian Club Galaxy (Aus-I) March 21 at Rosehill Gardens. She has an overall record of 8-3-1 from 17 starts and Aus$1,577,770 in earnings.
Race favorite Vain Queen, last year's Gregers winner, and I Love It, were the leaders for most of the trip, while Hugh Bowman settled Miracles Of Life midfield, three deep with cover.
Gregers asserted herself in the dash to the finish, but Miracles Of Life was flying down the outside closing the gap with every stride. She thrust out her head out right on the line to win the photo finish.
I Love It was a length back third and Vain Queen finished seventh in the 15-horse field.
Final time in the race, registered as the Robert Sangster Stakes, was 1:09.72 on a good track.
Miracles Of Life, a 4-year-old filly, is out of the unraced More Than Ready mare Dazzling Gazelle, whom Stonestreet also bought at last year Magic Millions sale.
