Filo Di Arianna , who earlier this summer looked like the top Canadian-based horse for the Sept. 17 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (G1T), is missing the race due to a minor injury, trainer Mark Casse told Woodbine publicity.
"The good news is we caught it very early. He'll be just fine," Casse said.
The Hall of Fame trainer is still represented by two participants in the CA$1 million race in Get Smokin (10-1 morning-line odds) and March to the Arch (12-1). Godolphin's Modern Games , trained by Charlie Appleby, is the favorite at 7-5.
The Woodbine Mile is one of three Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" contests Saturday at Woodbine. The race serves as a qualifier for the FanDuel Breeder's Cup Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T), a race Casse won with Tepin in 2015 and World Approval two years later. This year's Breeders' Cup Mile is Nov. 5 at Keeneland.
Physical setbacks have kept Filo Di Arianna on the sidelines at times since he was brought to the U.S. from his native Brazil, where he won his three starts in 2019. Away until 2021, the son of Drosselmeyer has since gone 4-for-6, capturing the King Edward Stakes (G2T) and Connaught Cup Stakes (G2T) this year at Woodbine for owners Gary Barber, Wachtel Stable, and Peter Deutsch. The 6-year-old is 7-0-0 in nine overall starts with earning of $284,776.
