Lady Speightspeare wins the Trillium Stakes at Woodbine

Charles Fipke's homebred grade 1 winner Lady Speightspeare  looks to extend her undefeated record at Woodbine Sept. 17 in the $150,000 Seaway Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and older.

The 4-year-old daughter of Speightstown   will be making her third start on Woodbine's Tapeta main track and her third start at the Seaway's distance of seven furlongs. Trained by Roger Attfield, the filly comes into the race off consecutive wins at the track—a one-length win on the grass in the one-mile Nassau Stakes (G2T) July 2 and a 1 1/4-length win Aug. 13 in the 8 1/2-furlong Trillium Stakes (G3) on the Tapeta.

Lady Speightspeare will be ridden by Emma-Jayne Wilson, who has been aboard in all but two of the filly's 11 career starts. She is the 2-1 morning-line favorite and 6-for-6 at Woodbine.

Trainer Mark Casse, a 12-time Sovereign Award Outstanding Trainer recipient, has entered three in the Seaway to spoil the favorite's streak. He will saddle Souper Sensational  (3-1), Beyond Mybudget  (10-1), and Nazuna  (10-1).

Live Oak Plantation's Souper Sensational has two previous seven-furlong wins at Woodbine. The 4-year-old by Curlin   comes into the race off two close seconds in graded company—by a neck in the Royal North Stakes (G2T) at Woodbine and by a head in the Caress Stakes (G3T) at Saratoga Race Course. The filly will be ridden by Patrick Husbands. A win by Casse would be his first in the Seaway.
