Serious Injury Avoided in Gulfstream Spill

Description:

Two jockeys and horses apparently escaped serious injury Dec. 28 in a spill during the first race at Gulfstream Park.

Jockey Dylan Davis, riding Leveraged Loan, and jockey Abdiel Jaen, aboard Cool Colony, were both involved in the spill around the turn of the one-mile event. Jaen was uninjured while Davis was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital complaining of leg pain. Both Cool Colony and Leveraged Loan got up after the spill and left the track.

Unbridled Saint, who finished third in the $10,000 claiming race for horses 3 and up, was disqualified to last by stewards after the race.

Stewards found that Unbridled Saint bumped Truly Memorable several times leaving the turn, forcing Truly Memorable out into Leveraged Loan, who clipped heels and fell. Cool Colony fell over the fallen horse.
