Todd Pletcher trainee Provocateur headlines a field of 14 set to contest the Sept. 24 Gallant Bob Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds going six furlongs over the Parx Racing main track.
Listed as the 4-1 morning-line favorite, the son of Into Mischief has not finished worse than third in his last six starts.
After breaking his maiden late last year at Tampa Bay Downs in his third start, the colt went into his 2022 season with a bang, placing second in the Jan. 15 Pasco Stakes and winning the March 19 Hutcheson Stakes his next time out.
His last few starts include a runner-up finish in the May 15 Gold Fever Stakes, third in the June 11 Woody Stephens Stakes Presented by Mohegan Sun (G1), and a win in the Aug. 6 Jersey Shore Stakes last out at Monmouth Park.
Owned by MyRacehorse Stable and Spendthrift Farm, the colt has earned $220,205 from a record of 3-2-1 from eight starts.
He was a $600,000 purchase by his owners at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the Kingswood Farm consignment.
Irad Ortiz Jr. has the mount from post 3.
Looking to rip the graded stakes victory away from Provocateur is the Wesley Ward trained Nakatomi who comes to the grade 2 event with a record of 3-1-1 from six starts.
The Firing Line gelding began his career with a win at Keeneland in April of last year and moved up quickly to contest the 2021 Norfolk Stakes (G2) at Ascot Racecourse but to no avail—placing eighth.
He ran for redemption in the 2021 Saratoga Special Stakes Presented by Miller Lite (G2), finishing in the money for a third-place finish.
His final starts of the 2021 season included a runner-up finish in an allowance optional claiming race and a win in Keeneland's Bowman Mill Stakes.
The gelding owned by Qatar Racing, Marc Detampel, and Bottle Rocket Stable had an extended hiatus from the track, returning nearly eight months after his Bowman Mill victory to win an allowance optional claiming race June 26 at Churchill Downs.
Nakatomi was a $25,000 purchase by Detampel from the Hunter Valley Farm consignment to the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale. He has earned his purchase price back several times, banking $252,780 in earnings.
Joel Rosario will ride the gelding from post 11.
Also in the field is stakes winner Scaramouche who is 5-0-1 from eight starts for trainer Guadalupe Preciado.
The gelded son of Munnings has run nearly all of his starts at Parx, including his victory in the March 8 Rittenhouse Square Stakes.
His only starts to come from other tracks are a fifth-place finish in the Bay Shore Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct and a third place in the July 2 Concern Stakes at Laurel Park.
Owned by Nicholas Cammarano Jr., the gelding was a $20,000 purchase by his owner from the Eisaman Equine consignment to the 2021 Ocala Breeders' Sales' June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale.
He has $216,660 in earnings and will be ridden by John Velazquez from post 14.
