Annapolis outruns the pack to win the Turf Mile at Keeneland

Bass Racing's Annapolis  defeats his elders and joins a select group of 3-year-olds to capture the Oct. 8 $1,000,000 Coolmore Turf Mile Stakes (G1T) at Keeneland.

The son of War Front   gave jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. and trainer Todd Pletcher back-to-back grade 1 victories at Keeneland following Forte's win in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) one race earlier.

Racing in mid-pack behind fractions of swift fractions of :23.58 and :46.60, Annapolis forged ahead down the lane and drew away to a convincing 1 1/2-length score. His final time of 1:33.29 established a new stakes record.

Behind Annapolis, a blanket three-way finish ensued between Ivar , Order of Australia , and Set Piece . Ivar got the nod over 2020 FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile presented by PDJF (G1T) hero Order of Australia for runner-up honors.

Annapolis, a two-time graded stakes winner, earned his first grade 1 score in the Coolmore Turf Mile, as well as landing himself an all-expense paid ticket to the Nov. 5 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) at Keeneland.
