Lane's End's freshman sire West Coast sired his first black-type winner when his daughter Marz Express won the Oct. 8 West Virginia Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders' Classic Stakes at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in her first stakes start.
James Franklin Miller bred the filly out of Mantekilla, a winning daughter of Lemon Drop Kid who also is the dam of Harlan's Destiny (Harlan's Holiday), who won the 2014 West Virginia Triple Crown Nutrition Breeders' Classic Stakes.
Marz Express was offered at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Yearling Sale where she was consigned by Bill Reightler and bought back on a final bid of $19,000. She is now campaigned by Ultra Championship Racing and trained by Anthony Farrior, for whom she scored her third start Sept. 17 at Charles Town. She became a stakes winner in her next start and has now earned $54,346.
Mantekilla produced a filly by Audible this year and was bred back to Goldencents .
West Coast is a multiple grade 1-winning son of Flatter who was named Eclipse champion 3-year-old colt for 2017. He won the Travers Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) and the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) on his way to winning six of 13 starts and earning $5,803,800.
West Coast stood at Lane's End near Versailles, Ky., this year for $15,000.
