Greatest Honour winning the 2021 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park

Courtlandt Farm's well-bred, multiple graded stakes winner Greatest Honour   has retired to stud at Spendthrift Farm and will stand the 2023 breeding season for a fee of $7,500 with a stands and nurses guarantee.

The homebred 4-year-old son of Tapit   was a winner at 2 and at 3 won the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) by 5 3/4 lengths and the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) by 1 1/2 lengths before finishing third in the Curlin Florida Derby Presented by Hill 'n' Dale Farms at Xalapa (G1). An injury sustained in the Florida Derby kept him out of last year's Triple Crown series, but he returned to racing and placed this year in the Ghostzapper Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park before being retired. Trained by Shug McGaughey, Greatest Honour compiled a 3-1-4 record from 10 starts and earned $446,440.

Greatest Honour is out of the Street Cry daughter Tiffany's Honour, who is out of 2007 Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour. Tiffany's Honour is a half sister to champion 3-year-old filly and 2007 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Rags to Riches  (A.P. Indy); 2006 Belmont winner Jazil  (Seeking the Gold); grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner Casino Drive  (Mineshaft  ); and Breeders' Cup Marathon Stakes winner Man of Iron  (Giant's Causeway).

"Greatest Honour has one of the best combinations of pedigree, looks, and ability among the sons of Tapit that we've evaluated," said Ned Toffey, Spendthrift general manager. "Unfortunately, he came up with an injury in last year's Florida Derby as the odds-on favorite before the Triple Crown. Prior to that, he was so dominant at Gulfstream that he was in the top three along with Essential Quality and Life Is Good as the favorites for the Kentucky Derby in many of the early wagering pools.

"Greatest Honour's second dam is Better Than Honour, who needs no introduction, and he's a big, strong son of Tapit that has 'classic' written all over him. Because he did not get to fulfill his tremendous potential on the track, we believe Greatest Honour offers a lot of value and upside now to breeders for $7,500."

Better Than Honour's family is one of the most productive in the American Stud Book. The immediate family includes Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Blush With Pride and grade 1 winners Streaming , Peeping Fawn , Thewayyouare , and Paris Lights . Other graded stakes winners include Cezanne , Arabian Hope , Smolensk , Can the Man , and Turnberry Isle .

Courtlandt Farm owner Donald Adams acquired Tiffany's Honour after she was bought back on a final bid of $2.3 million as part of Bluewater Sales' consignment at Fasig-Tipton's 2015 The November Sale. Greatest Honour is the mare's second foal. Tiffany's Honour was subsequently bought by Katsumi Yoshida for $2.2 million from Lane's End during the 2018 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sales.

Tapit is a three-time leading North American sire and the leading active sire by number of black-type winners (154) and black-type performers (299).

Greatest Honour is available for inspection at Spendthrift.
