Twilight Gleaming wins the Daisycutter Handicap at Del Mar

The $300,000 Franklin Stakes (G3T) features what should be a wide-open field Oct. 16 at Keeneland that includes last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2T) winner Twilight Gleaming .

The 5 1/2-furlong race is for fillies and mares 3 and up.

Twilight Gleaming is making her fourth start of the year but has two wins and a second—at Keeneland, no less—on her 2022 résumé. That came in the April 10 Palisades Stakes. Her last time out, she won the Daisycutter Handicap by half a length.

John Velazquez has the call from post 6.

Another Franklin contender, Caravel , won the Intercontinental Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park. She's won half of her six starts this year but other than the Intercontinental, has struggled some in graded stakes. The daughter of Mizzen Mast  finished fourth, 4 1/4 lengths back in the Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes (G2) on the all-weather track. She also finished ninth in the Caress Stakes (G3T).

Tyler Gaffalione rides from post 2.

No one should sleep on Brooke Marie , who won the Monrovia Stakes (G2T) at Santa Anita Park earlier this spring and finished fourth in the Mint Ladies Sprint Stakes (G3T) in her last outing. She's finished in the top three thrice in five starts this year.

Luis Saez has the call from post 11.

Another Irish-bred challenger in the field, Star Devine , posted a pair of second-place finishes in the Intercontinental Stakes and the Giant's Causeway Stakes. Those were followed by a fifth in the Caress Stakes and sixth in the Mint Ladies Sprint Stakes.

Trainer Brian Lynch has Tobys Heart .  The filly by Jack Milton   is a multiple stakes winner and placed third in this year's Monrovia Stakes (G2T). She will be ridden by Vincent Cheminaud from post 7.

Also in the field is Change of Control . She is 8-1-3-1 this year and 39-10-9-7 over her career with earnings of $953,925. She's battle-tested and a clear threat to win the Franklin. She finished fourth in the Jaipur Stakes (G1T). Change of Control is by Fed Biz  , a son of Giant's Causeway. Change of Control is the most successful of the four starters to come from her dam, the Quiet American  mare America's Blossom.

Rounding out the field are Bout Time , Creative Credit , Elle Z , Have A Good Day Querobin Dourada , and Thundering Creed . Also eligibles are the stakes-winning Ward trained Illegal Smile , Miner's Queen , and  Violenza .
