Sir Winston , a classic-winning millionaire by Awesome Again, has retired from racing and will stand stud next year at Pope McLean's Crestwood Farm. The Tracy Farmer homebred is out of the grade 3-winning and grade 1-placed mare La Gran Bailadora .
Farmer said, "Sir Winston showed us incredible talent right from the start and we think his progeny will do the same. We will be supporting him both with mares in the breeding shed as well as in the sales ring down the road."
Sir Winston was a precocious stakes winner in the Display Stakes and third place-finisher in the Grey Stakes (G3) at 2. The following year he won the Belmont Stakes (G1), defeating Preakness States (G1) winner, War of Will , multiple grade 2-winning Tacitus , and grade 2 winner Tax . Prior to the Belmont victory, Sir Winston was second in the Peter Pan Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park to eventual grade 1 winner Global Campaign .
At the age of four, Sir Winston ran second best in the Flat Out Stakes at Belmont, and contested two other stakes races. The next year he went on to win four stakes including a victory in the Valedictory Stakes (G3) at Woodbine. He added runner-up finishes in the Autumn Stakes (G2) and Durham Cup Stakes (G3).
Sir Winston retires sound as a grade 1 winner with a record of 6-4-1 in 20 starts with earnings of $1,277,623.
His fee will be $7,500 live foal stands and nurses. Share the Upside will be available.
