Winchell Thoroughbreds' grade 1 winner Gunite leads a field of seven 3-year-olds entered in the Oct. 22 Perryville Stakes going seven furlongs over the Keeneland dirt.
The son of Gun Runner has won three of his five starts this year after an eight-month hiatus following his 2021 season. His wins include the July 3 Maxfield Overnight Stakes, July 31 Amsterdam Stakes (G2), and last out in the Sept. 24 Harrods Creek Stakes.
His other starts were runner-up finishes June 3 in an allowance optional claiming race and in the Aug. 27 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1).
During his 2-year-old year, the colt was runner-up in the Saratoga Special Stakes Presented by Miller Lite (G2) and then won the Hopeful Stakes (G1) his next time out.

"His last three races were excellent—his win in the Amsterdam, his second in the Allen Jerkens, and then the other day at Churchill."
Gunite is currently being considered for starts in both the Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and the Qatar Racing Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), both held Nov. 5, which Asmussen says the colt is still on target for.
