Adlerflug Colt Dominates Day 3 at Arqana Sale

The Adlerflug colt consigned as Lot 398 in the ring at the Arqana October Yearling Sale

Demand remained strong on the third day of the October Yearling Sale Oct. 19, which featured the first half of Part 2 of the catalog. A total of 132 (85%) of the 156 yearlings offered were sold at an average price of €26,852 (US$26,441) and a median of €22,000 ($21,663). The turnover for the day amounted to €3,544,500 ($3,490,322).

Son of Adlerflug Knocked Down for $123,089

Two lots by the late Adlerflug were cataloged, one of which went the way of Marco Bozzi, who had the final say at €125,000 ($123,089) for the colt (Lot 398) out of a granddaughter of the classic winner Flute, a dual grade 1 winner in the United States. He was consigned by Haras d'Ombreville.  

"I think he was one of the nicest horses today—I really liked him!" said Marco Bozzi. "He is by Adlerflug, a stallion that I particularly like, and comes from a good family. I've bought him for Mr. Frassetto, who had a winner this afternoon at Deauville. We hope to have the winning combination with this one!"

Marco Bozzi Bloodstock has made a total of four purchases to be the sales-leading buyer for gross receipts of €236,000 ($232,393) at an average price of €59,000 ($58,098).

$103,395 for a Daughter of Mastercraftsman

Consigned by Haras du Mont dit Mont, a daughter of Mastercraftsman  (Lot 372) was knocked down for €105,000 ($103,395). Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency) signed the docket for the filly out of a half sister to the very talented Zagora  that won the 2012 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T) and Diana Stakes (G1) in 2011.

The agent said, "She's a lovely filly by Mastercraftsman with a great physique. She comes from a very good family that we know well. She'll go to the U.S. and we hope she will do as well as her aunt!"

Daughter of Zarak Sold for $90,593

Paul Nataf underlined the popularity of the Aga Khan Studs' stallion when going to €92,000 ($90,593) for Lot 404, a daughter of Zarak  out of a full sister to multiple group 1 winner Meandre , consigned by Haras de Grandcamp.

Haras de Grandcamp has sold seven yearlings for gross figures of €234,000 ($230,423), an average price of €33,429 ($32,918), to be the leading consignor thus far.



The sale continues Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. (local time) with the second half of Part 2 of the catalog.

Over the past three days of selling, 379 yearlings of the 461 through the sales ring have sold (82.2%) for gross receipts of €22,499,500 ($22,155,595). Good for an average price of €59,365 ($58,457) and a median of €40,000 ($39,388).
