The chance for Vedareo  to emulate her champion sister has faded, but connections are hoping the daughter of Daredevil   may blaze a trail of her own as a 3-year-old.

Rather than start Vedareo in the Nov. 4 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Keeneland, trainer Robert E. "Butch" Reid Jr. has sent her to winter at Brookdale Farm near Versailles, Ky., after a fifth-place finish in the Oct. 2 Frizette Stakes (G1) at the Belmont at the Big A meeting. Out of the Mineshaft mare Vero Amore, the Swilcan Stables homebred is a half sister to Vequist , the daughter of Nyquist   who won the 2020 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland and was named champion 2-year-old filly that season.

"We were disappointed with her last race; she came out of it a little banged up, a little stiff," Reid said of Vedareo. "Nothing serious, no surgeries or anything, but we think she's going to be a real nice 3-year-old and we want to let her grow. She's a high-strung filly and she has a kind of immature body, and she's immature mentally as well. Rather than throw her to the wolves, we wanted to give her time, so we sent her down to the farm."

A debut winner sprinting 4 1/2 furlongs at Parx Racing in June, Vedareo finished fifth of seven in the July 14 Schuylerville Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course. She then trounced six rivals by six lengths going a mile in the Aug. 21 Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park.
