Description:

Christine Hayden's homebred Unspurned seeks her second straight graded-stakes score in the $150,000 Hendrie Stakes (gr. III) at Woodbine May 9.

in April the 4-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid   rallied from off the pace to take the Whimsical Stakes (gr. III) by a length and will carry high weight of 121 pounds in the 6 1/2-furlong Hendrie.

BOSSERT: Unspurned Makes Grade in Whimsical

The win in the Whimsical snapped a four-race losing streak, in which she finished second in her prior three starts. It was the fourth win from 12 career starts for the Ontario-bred, who has earned $452,969 in her career so far. All 12 of her starts have come at Woodbine.

Unspurned broke her maiden in her debut in 2013 but dropped her next three starts before winning an allowance race May 18 of last year. After finishing fifth in the June 15 Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser, Unspurned rebounded to take the Bison City July 13 for her first stakes score.

Unspurned, who is trained by Roger Attfield, drew post 4 in the six-horse field and will be ridden by Alan Garcia.

Sam-Son Farm's Checkered Past looks to rebound in the Hendrie after having her two-race win streak snapped when she finished a distant ninth on the grass in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park Feb. 7 in her 2015 debut. Prior to that, the 5-year-old won her only two starts of 2014, scoring in an allowance race at Woodbine May 9 before taking the June 14 Trillium Stakes, also at Woodbine.

In total, Checkered Past has been in the money in eight of 10 career starts, winning four times, with earnings of $251,558 for Sam-Son Farm, which also bred the chestnut mare. Checkered Past, who is trained by Malcolm Pierce, drew the rail and will be ridden by Eurico Rosa Da Silva.

Multiple stakes winner Miss Mischief has lost her last three starts, including both this year, but can rebound in the Hendrie for owner Diane Manning.

In her last start, Miss Mischief, a 5-year-old mare by Into Mischief  , finished fifth in the Maryland Racing Media Stakes at Laurel Park Feb. 14. Since that effort, the Kentucky-bred has worked four times for this race, including three bullet moves at Laurel.

Miss Mischief will break from post 3 under jockey Jesse Campbell.

Completing the field will be Paladin Bay, Disco Barbie, and Skylander Girl.
