Katie Tolbert, an assistant and exercise rider for dual Eclipse Award-winning trainer Brad Cox, appeared to injure her left leg in a training accident Oct. 28 at Churchill Downs, according to Churchill Downs publicity manager Kevin Kerstein.

Tolbert was backing up an unidentified horse during training hours and was unseated when the horse reared after standing before an intended gallop, Kerstein wrote in a text message.

She was conscious and alert when transported to University of Louisville hospital with an apparent left leg injury, he indicated. The unidentified horse was "OK and apprehended by outriders," Kerstein wrote.

The social media account for Brad Cox Racing tweeted Friday morning, "We are hoping for a smooth recovery for Katie. We know she will be missing her horses but no doubt cheering her best guy Cyberknife   on next week."

Gold Square's Cyberknife is expected to race next in the Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) Nov. 5 at Keeneland. He also is pre-entered in the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), though Cox indicated at the time of pre-entries that race was the second preference of the two races.

Cyberknife is expected to breeze Oct. 29 at Churchill Downs.

In addition to regularly galloping and often breezing that two-time grade 1 winner, Tolbert has also been aboard other elite runners for Cox, including now-retired champion Essential Quality  .
