Multiple grade 3 winner Warrior's Charge , a son of Munnings who raced from 2 to 6, will enter stud next year at Irish Hill Century Farm near Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He will stand for $5,000 as part of the Irish Hill and Dutchess Views Stallions roster.
Bred by Al Shaquab Racing in Florida out of the stakes-placed Broken Vow mare Battling Brook , Warrior's Charge was raced by Ten Strike Racing and Madaket Stables. After placing at 2, he took his first shot in a graded stakes in the 2019 Preakness Stakes (G1), where he finished fourth. He continued to improve at 4 when he won the Razorback Handicap (G3) and the Philip H. Iselin Stakes (G3), while also finishing as runner-up in the Oaklawn Handicap (G2). He would overcome a rough trip in the Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap (G1) to finish a solid fourth ahead of multiple grade 1 winner McKinzie and grade 1 winner Hog Creek Hustle .
Warrior's Charge retires with a 6-3-4 record from 22 career starts and $1,016,690 in earnings.
"Warrior's Charge was a very good horse from day one. He had speed, he could carry it around two turns, and was competitive at the top level," said trainer Brad Cox. "Physically he is a very well built horse, with great bone, and very sound throughout his entire career."
Liz Crow, manager for Ten Strike Racing, said Warrior's Charge provides New York breeders an opportunity to get Munnings' speed in proven two-turn horse.
Munnings, a son of champion sprinter Speightstown , was grade 1-placed from six furlongs up to 1 1/8 miles but did his best running at seven furlongs. He is the seventh-leading North American sire by progeny earnings so far this year, as of Oct. 28, and will likely be represented in the Qatar Racing Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) by multiple grade 1 winner Jack Christopher .
"Warriors Charge really was an exceptional talent," Crow said. "He showed brilliance in the mornings and ran big races in the grade 1 Met Mile and grade 1 Preakness as well as being a multiple graded stakes winner. He was sound and consistent and is a phenomenal horse physically. He provides the only opportunity to breed to a son of the great Munnings in New York and based on his physical, I am excited to see his progeny at future sales and races."
Battling Brook is out of the Wild Rush daughter Crazy Woman Creek, who is a half sister to grade 3-placed stakes winner Pink Poppy (Tiznow ) and to grade 1-placed winner Liquidity . The immediate family also has produced grade 3 winner Key Biscayne .
Crow said Warrior's Charge will be well supported by Ten Strike, a top breeder in New York. The stallion is available for inspection.
