Super Chow wins the Bowman Mill Stakes at Keeneland

Super Chow  rolled to a five-length victory Oct. 29 in the $200,000 Bowman Mill Stakes at Keeneland, giving trainer Jorge Delgado his first win at the Lexington track in style.

Lea Farms' 2-year-old son of Lord Nelson  set out for the early lead soon after breaking alertly from post 5 under Chantal Sutherland and set swift fractions of :22.50, :46.27, and :58.69. Shaking free of his rivals off the turn for home, he shifted out to the four path but continued to widen the advantage to the line.

The final time was 1:12.06 on a fast track.

Bourbon Bash  rallied from fourth to finish second, 1 3/4 lengths ahead of Raise Cain , who completed the trifecta three-quarters of a length in front of favored Sir Lancelot .

"Very nice, very nice (to get my first win in my second start at Keeneland)," Delgado said. "We're very happy. Very thankful to the owner Lea Farms—they never show me anything but support. And my team did an amazing job. I'm very happy with my rider, the groom, my assistant—they were magnificent, so I have to thank them all."

Super Chow was sent off at odds of 4-1 and returned $10.96 on a $2 win ticket. He improved his record to three wins and a third from four starts, with earnings of $205,850. This was his second consecutive victory on the heels of a Sept. 10 allowance-level score at Pimlico Race Course.

"(Super Chow is) really fast," Sutherland said. "The first part I was a little concerned, like, 'Oh, my God, we're going a little quick. Is he going to hold on and last?' Not only did he last, he kept on accelerating. He was impressive for me today.

"I rode him his first start and that was impressive, but he's really matured and obviously Delgado and his team have done an amazing job," she added. "I'm so lucky to ride him… I was worried about Sir Lancelot but (Super Chow) brought his 'A' game today, and I think we're going to see more amazing things from this horse."

Bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm out of the Warrior's Reward mare Bonita Mia, Super Chow was a $75,000 purchase by Lea Farms from Eisaman Equine's consignment to the 2022 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. He also went through the ring in 2021 at The July Sale, Fasig-Tipton's selected summer yearling sale in Kentucky, where Eisaman bought him for $70,000 from Scott Mallory's consignment.

Bonita Mia's full sister to Super Chow sold for $125,000 to St. Elias Stables at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when consigned by Legacy Bloodstock. She has an Into Mischief   weanling colt and was bred to Authentic   for 2023.
