I See Clearly Now became the first winner for his sire Clearly Now Oct. 29 with a dominant win in a $17,000 maiden claiming event for accredited Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds at Delta Downs.
In for a $10,000 tag, the gelding challenged for the early lead going 6 1/2 furlongs under jockey Joe Stokes and kept on going, driving clear to a 4 3/4-length victory for trainer Allen Landry and owner Rodney Verett in a final time of 1:21.89 on a fast track.
I See Clearly Now was sent off at odds of 4-1 and returned $10.80 on a $2 win ticket. He also went home with new owners, as Mark Hibdon made the claim.
Bred by Colonel Thoroughbreds out of the Archarcharch mare Christian County, I See Clearly Now was a $20,000 purchase by Verett from the Texas Thoroughbred Association's Yearling and HORA Sale in 2021.
Clearly Now, by Horse Greeley out of the Arch mare Bend, won the 2013 Swale Stakes (G3) and Bold Ruler Handicap (G3), and the 2014 Belmont Sprint Championship Stakes (G3). With an 8-6-6 record from 31 starts, the multiple track- record setter retired with earnings of $1,145,674 and a top-level placing when third in the 2014 Carter Handicap (G1). He stood the 2022 season at Clear Creek Stud for an advertised fee of $2,500 live foal.
