Description:

Grade I winner Discreet Marq will make her first start of 2015 at Belmont Park on May 9, entered as the 2-1 favorite in a field of seven older fillies and mares for the $150,000 Beaugay Stakes (gr. IIIT).

Sold by breeder Patricia Generazio for $2.4 million to Moglare Stud Farm at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall 2014 mixed sale, the now 5-year-old daughter of Discreet Cat   was purchased to stay in training with her new connections but has not raced since running third in her sole start to date for them, the Nov. 30 Matriarch Stakes (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Park last year. With more than $1 million in earnings, she is the Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) winner of 2013 and has six stakes scores to her credit, two of them graded.

"Discreet Marq is training very well," said Christophe Loreil, assistant to trainer Christophe Clement. "Obviously it's her first time back this year and it looks to be a good spot. She's coming in fresh, well, and sound with no problem. I think it's a good race back (for her)."

Discreet Marq drew the outside post in the 1 1/16-mile turf event and will be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez while carrying 119 pounds.

Andrew Rosen's European invader J Wonder is the 4-1 second choice on the morning line for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey in just her second U.S. start and first try at stakes competition. Last time out, the group III winner was third in an April 9 allowance event going a mile on the turf at Keeneland.

"We think she's a really nice filly," McGaughey said. "She had good European form, her race at Keeneland was a good race coming off that long of a layoff, and I think we learned a little something about her that day. I think she's been training very well since then and we got a good strong race into her. I'm looking forward to Saturday."

The 4-year-old Footstepsinthesand filly will be ridden by Javier Castellano from the rail under a 115-pound assignment.

Trainer Chad Brown has multiple grade III winner Testa Rossi looking to return to winning ways after a ship to California resulted in a fourth-place finish in the March 15 Santa Ana Stakes (gr. IIT) at Santa Anita. Prior to that start, the French-bred 4-year-old daughter of Dr Fong was the winner via disqualification of the Jan. 31 Lambholm South Endeavour Stakes (gr. IIIT).

Testa Rossi, who races for Thomas Coleman, Doheny Racing Stable, and Head of Plains Partners, breaks from post 5 under Jose Ortiz and 119 pounds.

One runner of interest is Juddmonte Farms' Radiator, another European invader looking to earn her first graded-stakes win for Hall of Famer Bill Mott. Victorious in her first start in North America April 8 at Keeneland in an allowance race, Radiator will look to extend her win streak with jockey Joel Rosario aboard from post 2.

Grade II winner Caroline Thomas, minor stakes winner Recepta, and allowance winner Photo Call complete the field.
