Highfield Princess was the first European contender to leave the quarantine barn Nov. 2. Her race day jockey Jason Hart landed in Kentucky the day before and was on track to exercise her this morning on the training track.
Trainers House Enterprises' 5-year-old homebred daughter of Night of Thunder is the second choice on the morning line at 7-2 for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T). She comes into the World Championships off three consecutive group 1 victories: the Arc Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) at Deauville, Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) at York, and the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Flying Five Stakes (G1) at the Curragh. This year, the mare has won five of nine starts and banked more than $1.04 million. For her career, she has a 12-5-5 record from 30 starts and earnings of more than $1.26 million.
Highfield Princess, who is trained by John Quinn, will aim to prevent 2-1 morning-line favorite Golden Pal from capturing his third Breeders' Cup victory and becoming the third horse to achieve this feat after Goldikova and Beholder .
"I'm very happy with her, nice and alert, she seems in good order," Hart said. "We just had a canter round the training track. I think we've got a lovely draw in the gate, 6. Obviously, Golden Pal is two away from us in 8 and again looks like the one we all have to beat. It would be great to get a nice lead into the race off him and we'll see how it goes. I'm really looking forward to it."
Highfield Princess is out of the Danehill winner Pure Illusion, making her a half sister to group 1-placed, group 2 winner Cardsharp . Pure Illusion also is a half sister to Well Spoken, the dam of multiple group winner Chrysanthemum .
