Jay Em Ess Stable's Kentucky homebred Full Moon Madness will look to make the grade Nov. 6 in the $150,000 Nashua Stakes (G3), a one-turn mile over the main track for juveniles at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Trained by Michelle Nevin, the Into Mischief bay is out of the multiple grade 1 stakes winner By the Moon , who was campaigned by these same connections to wins in the 2017 Ketel One Ballerina Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course and 2014 Frizette Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park.
Full Moon Madness, third in his first two starts, added blinkers in his third-out graduation traveling 6 1/2 furlongs from the outermost post 6 over a sloppy and sealed main track on Oct. 1 during the Belmont at the Big A meet.
Nevin also acknowledged that Full Moon Madness may have moved up on a wet surface, something his dam relished.
Nevin said the stretch out in distance shouldn't hinder Full Moon Madness, noting that they are not committed to making the lead.
The race also includes a couple of expensive 2-year-old purchases this year in Rosedown Racing Stables' Champions Dream , a $425,000 buy, and West Point Thoroughbreds, Woodford Racing, Gainesway Stable, Phipps Stable, Ken Langone, Edward Hudson Jr., and Lane's End Racing's Signator , a $1.7 million purchase.
Signator has made his two career starts at Belmont at the Big A, closing to finish second in his Sept. 16 debut traveling six furlongs before graduating one month later when stretched out to one mile over a muddy track for Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey.
"I think he wants to run a distance of ground. He'll run as far as you want to run him," he said.
Other entrants include American Speed , Torrone , and Prove Right .
The Nashua is slated as race 9 on Sunday's 10-race card, which also features the $150,000 Tempted Stakes for 2-year-old fillies in race 3.
Parx Raider Foggy Night a Clear Contender in Tempted
Pine Brook Farm's impressive maiden winner Foggy Night will step up to face winners for the first time in the $150,000 Tempted, another one-mile main track test.
The Butch Reid Jr.-trained Foggy Night was last seen dominating a maiden route at a mile and 70 yards Oct. 19 at Parx Racing on the heels of two sprints to start off her career. She led at each point of call and extended her margin to win by 11 1/4 lengths under Paco Lopez.
"She came out of her last race well, and we knew the distance is what she needed," said Reid.
It was the third start for the Florida-bred daughter of Khozan , improving from a pair of runner-up efforts in her first two outings at 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 furlongs, respectively. She was defeated 5 1/4 lengths by returning rival Rosie's Alibi in her second start, but Reid said he is hopeful she can get the better of her familiar rival at a longer distance.
MyRacehorse's Rosie's Alibi makes her third career outing for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher in her first appearance since graduating in the aforementioned maiden over Foggy Night.
Four-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer Chad Brown and owner Peter Brant, the leading trainer and owner at the recently concluded Belmont at the Big A fall meet, will send out debut maiden winner Good Sam off her pacesetting win on Oct. 2 over a sloppy and sealed Aqueduct main track.
Rounding out the field are Crypto Mama , Binsky , and La Vita Sofia .
