While Epicenter is busy contesting the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) Nov. 5 at Keeneland, his dam Silent Candy is preparing for the November Breeding Stock Sale where she will be sold on the first day as Hip 167 with Taylor Made Sales Agency.
Bred in Kentucky by Kenneth Avanzino and Joseph Sullivan, the mare will sell in foal to Not This Time , carrying a full sibling to the Classic contender.
Westwind Farms purchased the mare from the 2014 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $130,000 from the Summerfield consignment. Mike Harris of Westwind told publicist Jennie Rees of the Kentucky Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association that after the mare's success as a producer, it makes more sense to move her on.
"She's just too valuable for us to have down there," Harris said. "She needs to be bred to a lot better sires than we can afford to breed her to."
Vice president of sales for Taylor Made, Frank Taylor, told Rees that they are looking forward to watching Epicenter run on Saturday and how it will help to boost the mare's page.
"I think it will double or triple her value if Epicenter wins the Classic," Taylor said. "So it's a big thing. It's going to be tough to beat Flightline , but if there's a horse in there that can do it, I think it's him... This mare, if she has a good foal, it could bring $1 million or more."
