The endearing saga of Cody's Wish continued Nov. 5 when the son of Curlin prevailed in a thrilling stretch battle to capture the $1 million Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) at Keeneland.
Last of the field of seven early, the Godolphin homebred picked off horses passing the half-mile pole and swung three-wide into the stretch under regular pilot Junior Alvarado. Two-time grade 1 winner Cyberknife , close to the pace throughout, wouldn't be passed without a fight and dueled a closing Cody's Wish the length of the stretch, with the eventual winner narrowly edging the stubborn 3-year-old.
Trained by Bill Mott, Cody's Wish ($6.32) raced the mile on a fast main track in 1:35.33.
Slow Down Andy ran on for third with Gunite finishing fourth.
