Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) heroine Alpinista is one of four stars to have been shortlisted for the Cartier Horse of the Year award.
The Sir Mark Prescott-trained mare, who could yet have a swansong in the Nov. 27 Japan Cup (G1), is joined by six-time group 1 winner Baaeed , top sprinter Highfield Princess , and outstanding stayer Kyprios .
In addition to the Horse of the Year award, there are seven other categories—older horse, sprinter, stayer, 3-year-old colt, 3-year-old filly, 2-year-old colt, and 2-year-old filly.
The contenders for older horse are Alpinista, Baaeed, QIPCO British Champion Stakes (G1) hero Bay Bridge , and QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (G1) winner Kinross .

The fields for the two 3-year-old awards include two Breeders' Cup winners in Modern Games and Tuesday , while the latter's trainer Aidan O'Brien has three of the four nominees in the 2-year-old colt division, including the now-retired Blackbeard .
There will be a non-equine award presented during the ceremony, the Cartier/The Daily Telegraph Award of Merit, for the person who has done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.
The 32nd staging of the awards will be held Nov. 9 at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
