The Coolmore train rumbled Nov. 7 during the opening session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when Marion Ravenwood , the dam of classic-placed multiple grade 1 winner Nest , was acquired by M. V. Magnier for $2.6 million.

Marion Ravenwood was offered as Hip 187 by Ashview Farm's Bryan and Gray Lyster, co-breeders of Nest in partnership with Colts Neck Stables. The 14-year-old A.P. Indy mare is currently carrying a Curlin   full sibling to the likely 2022 champion 3-year-old filly.

Nest won three grade 1 races this year against fillies, including the Central Bank Ashland Stakes (G1) at Keeneland, and the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) and Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. Nest took on males in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NTRA Bets (G1) and earned a classic placing when she finished second to Mo Donegal  .

If Magnier needed any boost in his enthusiasm, some race replays of Nest provided it.

"I was just watching videos of Nest and that filly has just been fantastic for Mike Repole and (Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Michael House)," Magnier said. "She's the dam of a very good filly, so the price makes sense."

On the track Mario Ravenwood won the 2011 Capades Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. Besides Nest, her foals include 2021 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Idol  —also by Curlin—as well as stakes-placed winner Dr Jack , a son of Pioneerof the Nile.

Out of the grade 2-winning Quiet American mare Andujar, Marion Ravenwood is a half sister to grade 3-placed winner Abstraction (by Pulpit).

Magnier said Marion Ravenwood likely will be sent to Triple Crown winner Justify   in 2023. Justify will stand the 2023 season for $100,000 at Coolmore's Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky.

Weanling Half Sister to Honor Code Sells for $1.5M

Also Monday, Magnier landed a weanling half sister to champion and sire Honor Code   for $1.5 million. Offered as Hip 161, she would finish as the highest-priced weanling of the opening session. The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro   was consigned by Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa.

Bred in Kentucky by Dell Ridge Farm and Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings, the bay or brown filly is out of stakes winner Serena's Cat, by Storm Cat. Serena's Cat is the dam of Metropolitan Handicap (G1) and Whitney Stakes (G1) winner Honor Code (by A.P. Indy), grade 2 winner and sire Noble Tune  (by Unbridled's Song), stakes winner Declarationofpeace  (by War Front  ), and stakes-placed Lady Serena (by Bernardini).

"She's a fantastic filly and all the credit to John Sikura and the breeders; they're fantastic breeders," Magnier said before noting some of the top horses in her family. "She's exceptionally bred."

In 2003, Dell Ridge Farm purchased Serena's Cat for $1.4 million at the Keeneland November sale, where she was consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent.
