Domestic Spending , injured in the Nov. 5 FanDuel Breeders' Cup Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T) at Keeneland, continues to do well in his recovery from a pelvic fracture, trainer Chad Brown tweeted Nov. 8.
"He is comfortable, bright, and has a great appetite," he continued in his tweet. "We are optimistic to release him next week to our local farm where we are committed to provide him with a pampered life in beautiful pastures."
According to Kentucky Equine Research, most horses recover from pelvic fractures after a lengthy period of rest.
Making his first start in 15 months in the Mile, the 5-year-old Kingman gelding was pulled up down the backstretch by Flavien Prat when traveling uncomfortably. He was vanned to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for further evaluation.
Brown announced the fracture later Saturday afternoon and noted the horse began to show improvement in an update Nov. 6.
The Klaravich Stables horse was an 11-1 shot in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) against some of the world's best turf milers in his first start since a second in the Mr. D. Stakes (G1T) at Arlington International Racecourse in August 2021. Last fall, he had been pointed to the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T) but was scratched in the leadup to the race with inflammation in his left foreleg that was determined to be a suspensory ligament injury.
