Stradivarius races in the Goodwood Cup at Goodwood Racecourse

Stradivarius , the seven-time grade one winner, will stand at National Stud in Newmarket, United Kingdom, for £10,000 ($11,360).

He last raced in the July 26 Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes (G1), which is part of the British Champions Series. Stradivarius finished second in that race and was retired exactly two months later as he struggled to recover from a bruised foot.

A son of Sea The Stars , the 8-year-old Stradivarius finished with a 20-5-5 mark in 35 races, earning $4,462,835. Bjorn Nielsen's homebred was 1-1-1 in three starts this year, earning $316,036.

Neilsen told Racing Post at the time of Stradivarius' retirement that he had considered retiring him last year.

"In the end we decided to keep him in training for three races and he ran in all three, winning the (Paddy Power) Yorkshire Cup (G2) first time out and then having no luck at Ascot and Goodwood," he said. "But each time he showed the fire was still there."

Stradivarius' 18 group wins is more group than any other European horse.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Stradivarius is out of the Bering mare Private Life.

Now, Stradivarius moves on to a new career.

"His turn of foot was there for all to see, and I for one will be supporting him with mares next year," Nielsen told Racing Post in September. "Who would not want to breed from a filly by Stradivarius, with all the attributes he showed?"
